Is your small business struggling to get website traffic?
If so, you’re not alone. Every business goes through a time where they feel stuck or even invisible.
But those times hard times won’t last forever. A well-rounded ad campaign may be exactly what you need to drive purchase-ready traffic to your website.
Here are two steps you’ll want to take in order to not only gain website traffic but traffic that’s ready to buy what you’re offering.
Identify your Target Audience
The first step is the most important. This is where you should identify your target audience.
A target audience is a group of consumers who are most likely to buy your products or services.
It only makes sense to want to reach the people already interested in buying what your business is offering. Otherwise, you end up wasting time and money chasing after the wrong audience.
One way of finding your target audience is to create a buyer persona. Buyer personas are fictional representations of your ideal target buyer.
Start by writing down the demographic, geographic, preferences, habits, income, and challenges of your ideal buyer.
This puts yourself in a better position to understand the people you’re targeting in your ad campaigns.
We recommend using Hubspot’s Free Buyer Persona Tool if you’ve never made a buyer persona before.
Determine Where to Find Your Target Audience
Now that you have an idea of who your ideal buyers are, you can predict where they spend most of their time by asking yourself the following questions:
- What kind of activities would my buyer persona engage in?
- What do my buyer persona’s do on their spare time?
- Which kind of content would they be most interested in?
Let’s say, for example, you own an online store selling hockey cards, a simple form of a buyer persona for that example could be a 15-year-old boy who lives in a rural area.
You wouldn’t want to pay for something such as billboard ads as you know your ideal buyer doesn’t drive and wouldn’t see that billboard as much since he lives in a rural area.
However, what you do know is that he’s a teenager and most likely has social media meaning you can run the basis of your ad campaign on platforms such as Instagram.
Now, this was just a simple example but you can dive much deeper to really get a good sense of who you’re targeting.
Asking yourself these questions gives you a better sense of where your ideal buyers are most likely to see your advertisements and tell’s you where you want to put your efforts.
